Kevin McCarthy grew up in the City of Chicago. His father was a Chicago Policeman who helped motivate a desire for public service in all of his children. McCarthy worked for many years in the publishing and media industries eventually working in the Office of Communications at the Rockford Diocese helping to produce the Observer publication. You'll hear him from time to time on Rockford's classic rock radio station. He is a Curator of Facebook pages dedicated towards local music. He consistently emcees many events, fundraiser's and related throughout Rockford.
Kevin’s first attempt at running for office was as a “write-in” candidate for the Winnebago County Board. He was urged to run by area leaders and despite the difficulty to mounting such a campaign McCarthy raised money and rallied voters against the incumbent but fell short in the end.
After his 2016 Write-in campaign loss, McCarthy turned around and ran a successful campaign for Cherry Valley Township Trustee. McCarthy's focus as a Trustee was fiscal responsibility and building relationships between the township and other local governments. His next pursuit involved a run for county board where he felt he could use his collaborative skills.
In July of 2019 McCarthy announced his candidacy for the Republican Nomination for Winnebago County Board District 11 which included the Village of Cherry Valley, Cherry Valley Township and Rockford's east side. He successfully defeated the incumbent and a well-funded opponent and was unopposed in the General Election.
McCarthy was re-elected in 2022 and has continued his focus on Public Safety and Economic Development. He has also made constituent service a priority and has been a true representative of the people in his district.
